Callum {11 months}

Weight: 19 pounds, 10 ounces
Length: 29.5 inches

Likes: all food, being tickled, his grandparents little dog, going for walks in his stroller, paper, banging things together, sleeping in his swing
Dislikes: night time sleep, missing his nap, sleeping anywhere besides his swing or in the car, being hungry

Callum is still the content little boy. Though he is starting to get more picky about wanting to be held by people he knows. And held in general. If he isn't comfortable with a situation, he wants to be held. He happily takes in the world and loves going for walks...even tried eating a leaf that I didn't know about, that fell in his stroller while we were walking. He also quite enjoys being on the ground and playing with things like grass or the wheels on his stroller. And hair. Anyone's hair that gets close enough, he will grab.

The big thing that happened this month is Callum moving out of our room and into his own room. After a few particularly difficult nights, I decided something had to be done. I really do think it has helped. Though, lets be honest, it wasn't a miracle worker. He still isn't sleeping through the night. But, more nights than not, he is now only waking once or twice and that's a HUGE improvement. He is still sleeping in his swing. He literally goes crazy if we try to put him in his crib. Like even if he is asleep, he will immediately wake. So, we are still working on that. If anyone would like to come help, feel free!

Food wise, Callum doesn't eat purees at all anymore. For the most part, we just throw him a bit of what is on our plates. Or I cut him up things like banana, avocado, sweet peppers, peas, etc. He does know how to drink out of a straw. But he doesn't consistently drink much out of a cup. He still prefers to nurse. And given that he is now 11 months old, I am going to have to start thinking about that changing, at least during the day a bit.

Callum still isn't crawling, but he is moving around more. He started getting onto his knees from sitting, but generally immediately lays down on his belly. But don't be fooled, he can still get himself around a room if he truly wants something. He definitely scoots backward, which is the first step to crawling. He doesn't go from laying to sitting, but he has done it before "on accident" when he was mad a couple times, so I know he can do it.

Callum does try to copy what we are saying. He definitely seems to now know that "mama" is me and says it over and over to me at times when he especially wants me...like in the middle of the night when he wakes up crying. He also says dada, baba and papa. And if he is in the right mood, will try to repeat any simple word you ask him to say, though often the word sounds much different!

Callum is pretty go with the flow. I have to wake him from pretty much every nap he takes to pick someone up or take someone some place. I feel bad doing it and sometimes reap the consequences of it. But what else am I supposed to do? The nice thing is that he is pretty much content in any situation, so easy to take with me on the go.

I can't believe this little guy of mine is almost a year old! The time has definitely gone fast.

Just in case you care, Connor at 11 months and Isla at 11 months. And apparently Callum was my smallest baby at 11 months. It's probably because he only has 4 teeth and the other two had 7 at this point...I hear teeth weigh a lot ;)

Connor: He acts more grown up by the day. Thankfully he still is ok with answering all my questions and holding my hand.

Isla: The love of stuffed animals is real with this one. She pretty much always has at least one with her everywhere she goes.

Callum: He may not be crawling yet, but he is starting to get around more and more. Oh, and he started clapping.

Sleep

I feel like the topic of babies and sleep is always a bit of a sensitive topic. Almost taboo. But there are always people who want to go there. And generally the people that ask either ask because they truly care and want to offer a hug OR they consider themselves a bit of a baby whisperer and want to offer you all sorts of advice. Luckily for me, the third time around, I have a lot more perspective (more I know the reality of the situation first hand) on babies and sleep.

I actually read back on some of my old blog posts when Isla was little. I truly didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was tired. Oh so tired. I remember not even understanding how anyone could make it out of the house before 10am. It seemed completely incomprehensible to me at the time. I have said before that I think the transition to three kids has been so much easier because we have a schedule we have to keep...and by schedule, I mean school.

But back to sleep. Callum, though such a smiley little guy and an amazing napper has just been the crappiest of sleepers. Actually, that isn't true. He was an amazing sleeper as a newborn. I thought I lucked out and must have birthed some urban myth of the perfect sleeper. Alas, the 4 month sleep regression came around and things have never been the same since. The thing is, even on the crappiest of nights (which two nights ago consisted of Callum waking EIGHT TIMES), I have perspective. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know that in six months or so, most of this should be behind us. But, I also know with better sleep comes the end of the baby stage. And for that, I am a little bit sad.

In the mean time, I will take the long nights...as long as there is a good one thrown in there every couple days...if it means I can hold my little baby for a little bit longer. Oh, and total confession here, my almost 11 month old sleeps in his swing. Yep. Not sure how that happened or what I am going to do about it. I am still trying to figure it out.

All this to say, if you have a baby who is a crappy sleeper and have tons of advice coming your direction from all sorts of places, know that it will sort itself out and eventually your child will sleep through the night. In the mean time, you are welcome to come over to my place after a crappy night. I can make a big pot of coffee and we can tell each other of our sleepless nights...because nothing makes you feel better like knowing you aren't alone.

Connor: I'm so proud of this kid. He was awarded with the character trait of responsibility at school. Sure, he refused to look at me or even talk to me after the assembly. But I was glad to be there and happy to hear his teachers find him responsible.

Isla: There almost always is a stuffed animal on our journeys with us...or some other trinket. I love watching her imagination at work.

Callum: Oh hey, Callum's first fall. Glad you are finally joining us. Callum really likes crumbling up the crunchy leaves in his hands...then tries stuffing them in his mouth!

Happy Weekend!

^^ Just look at this smiley kid! I tell you, it's hard not to smile and be filled with joy when he is smiling so big.

Happy weekend! We have a birthday party to attend and I am taking some family photos on Sunday. Other than that, I am hoping for a pretty chill weekend. I like an empty calendar that we can just fill how we see fit in the heat of the moment.

Some weekend reads and things for you to ponder:

Target has started their 50% off one toy a day on cartwheel again for the Christmas season.

Speaking of Christmas, some good words regarding presents

Nothing like a scary story to keep your kid in a car seat until they are 16! Actually the law in California is a booster until 8, so this type of injury wouldn't of happened here anyway.

Three Little Monkeys...

This monkey outfit is a bit of a Grimbleby right of passage. One of my former coworkers sent it to me in Scotland when I was pregnant with Connor. He wore it for his first halloween, Isla for her second (she was only two weeks old for her first!) and now Callum has worn it. Never mind the fact that both Connor and Isla were both proficiently walking when they wore the monkey. No worries Callum, mom isn't ready for the day, that I am sure will come too quickly, that she has to figure out how to keep you safe around the stairs.

Let's take a look back, shall we?

Look at that sweet little Connor! Only a couple weeks from his first birthday. Oh man, and I remember the year before kind of hoping that I would no longer be pregnant by halloween!

And then there's our dark haired beauty. The little gap toothed smiles of babies just slays me. Like seriously gets me every single time! I had to include this next picture because it just cracked me up.

Connor and Isla have always been Connor and Isla even from little babes...always frienemies, these two. But how about a couple more pictures of adorable smiley Callum?

I love that this costume has lived on. It is a piece I will definitely be keeping. Sure, they may never want to use it for my grandkids, but I can pull it out and smile and think of all the great memories this little sock monkey holds for our family.

Halloween 2016

^^ Let's go ahead and start with this picture. Even though it was from right before we went trick or treating, all the kids were looking AND smiling. That is like one major victory.

^^ He refused to look at me during his school parade. He did the same thing last year.

^^ With his amazing teacher

^^ A class picture and a frame Connor decorated during his class party

^^ At least Isla would look at me AND smile during her parade!

^^ I feel like Isla's teachers may never speak with me again for posting this picture, but I love how dressed up they got!

We had a really good and easy halloween this year. Maybe because there wasn't one meltdown and the kids were in bed by 8pm? Who knows, but it was good. It started out with a halloween parade at Connor's school. Connor pretty much refused to look at me the whole time. One mom even said to him, "She gave birth to you, you own it to her to smile at you!" Haha, if only first graders understood that concept! Also, I feel it's worth noting that Connor decided to wear the same costume as last year...just as he chose to wear the same shirt for school pictures again (which will be getting a post of its own).

After Connor's parade, I had a little break before the parade at Isla's school. I seriously loved how dressed up Isla's teachers got. It kind of made my day. The other teachers at the school weren't as dressed up, but these ladies certainly brought it. Unlike her brother, Isla smiled away and looked at me during her parade. It was cute and fun to see all the preschoolers all dressed up.

In the evening, all the kids got redressed up for trick or treating. Callum wore the same costume that both Connor and Isla have worn before (and I of course will be doing a comparison post!) We walked over to a neighbor's house and hung out there and their halloween party before all going trick or treating as a group. After that, Callum was ready for bed. So Callum, Isla and I headed home. Isla handed out candy and was VERY into it...and maybe got a little crazy giving out the candy at times. Then Ian and Connor came home from the party and we got everyone ready for bed. It really was a fun day.
