8 Years Later

There is an indoor winter gardens in Aberdeen, Scotland that we visited while there in July. We used to live just up the street from it and I would frequently walk around in it with Connor during those cold winter months. It was warm and gave me a place to get out of the house to. While there, I made Connor take a picture in a spot that I knew I had taken many pictures of him over our time living there. Of course, when we got home I couldn't find any of the pictures. So much for being good at organizing photos!

The other day I got an itch to finish the kids baby books, since I was ordering updated family photos for our frames in our living room...nesting affects every aspect of life! While going through pictures, I stumbled across a random file that only had a few pictures in it. Well, it had pictures of Connor standing in the exact spot I took his picture this summer. Sure, no one but me can tell the pictures were taken at the same spot, given the angle, but it still made me happy to have a little comparison. And I got a chuckle out of the fact that, completely unplanned, he was wearing a red shirt in both photos.

So there you have it, Connor standing in the same spot eight years later. A place that holds so many memories for me of that early time of motherhood. A place where Connor and I learned and grew together so much. A place where fellow women, who I hardly knew at the time, came along side of me and helped me so much in those early days. A place that will forever hold a special spot in my heart.

Wow, that got sappy fast!

YUMMY!

While strolling around town yesterday, I saw an adorable cafe that caught my eye. I made Ian walk over to it with me to check it out. The closer I got, the more adorable it looked. So, we went in.

At the counter, our eyes came across some scrumptious looking carrot cake. We ordered a piece to split. OH-SO-GOOD! The cake part was so most and delicious. And the frosting, not too sweet, just perfect. We ended up getting a second piece to split. Seriously. It was just that good. And it has been occupying my mind ever since.

I think I will be headed back there this week for some more carrot cake goodness!

Doonies Farm

Connor and I went with a friend over to Doonies Farm in Aberdeen yesterday. I don't think it is a real farm...or at least not one that actually produces anything. It is really a farm for kids (and kids at heart) to come and enjoy the animals. You can feed and pet the animals. Connor touched a few...though it was more hitting them than petting them! And one of the horses kept trying to lick (or maybe bite?) him. Stupid horse! The most fun for Connor was the playground. They had some little tractors for babies. Connor rode around the yard on it...while being the good mom that I am, I pushed him!

And for all you germ-a-phobes out there, do not fear. I held Connor's hands after he touched the animals so he couldn't put them in his mouth. Then, he got a good scrub down before we left...they actually had a room to sanitize yourself (including shoes) before you left...and a bath when we got home.

What I Learned in Aberdeen

Ian is working up in Aberdeen this week and I decided to take the train up to visit him. The following are some of this things I have learned while up here:

1. Aberdeen is definitely NOT a tourist attraction. Sure, its the third largest city in Scotland, but that is about where the interesting stuff ends. Trust me, I tried to find something to catch my attention!
2. Hotels have "ironing rooms". Ian thought it was something for the housekeeping, but we soon discovered that it is actually where you are supposed to iron your clothes. And for having its own room, you would think they could at least have sprung for a full sized ironing board! Oh, and steam irons aren't allowed. Supposedly they set off the fire alarm...I don't believe that.

3. "Normal" showers do exist in the UK! Everywhere I have been, including my own house, has pump showers that you have to turn on and off. And these showers don't have great water pressure. When I got in the shower at the hotel today, I got into a normal shower with great water pressure. I am jealous!
4. I think I have discovered why the Scottish loathe basketball so much. It is possibly because they are trying to play it on grass!

5. KFC, which is all the rage over here, charges for ketchup. 10p a pack. What's up with that?!?
