Easter

Yes, easter looked different this year. But, we were the people that booked a camping trip last year on easter not realizing it was easter. Haha! So it's not like we are so stooped in tradition that it bothers us. It was more of a slow and enjoyable day. 

We all ate breakfast together and the kids got their easter baskets. Then we all watched church on the tv. We played legos while church was going. Then, it was time for the backyard egg hunt. At first, I was going to make each kid get a certain number of eggs, but I decided to just let them go for it and all worked out. Sure, Willa ended up with two eggs. But she was sure proud of those two eggs! And toward the end, I helped Callum find some of the eggs, as the older two had a bunch more than him. After that, we had lunch, then went for a walk in our neighborhood. 

Next, we cruised by Ian's parents house for a social distancing egg hunt in the front yard. His parents watched as the kids hunted for eggs, then we left and headed for home...where we ate a traditional easter meal of orange chicken, haha! 

All it all, it was a really enjoyable, slow paced and drama free day. Quite enjoyable in fact.

Easter 2018

And just like that, another Easter has come and gone. I am sort of sad we had to go back to school, rather than get the week off...or at least a day off to recover from the sugar high! Alas, spring break was last week, so back to the grind we are.

We actually did pretty much all our Easter festivities on Saturday this year, which was nice because it made Sunday a nice, chill family day. Saturday started out with an epic Easter egg hunt and my friend's mom's house (though I would count her mom as one of my friends too!). There had to be 40 kids there, plus all the parents. They only live a few blocks from us, so I walked with the kids and Callum fell asleep on the way there and slept through the whole egg hunt.

Isla was the first kid out the door when the big kids got to go hunt. Connor found one of the two prized golden eggs, which was drama all of its own because Isla tried taking it from him and when I put a stop to that, went into a full on meltdown. Thankfully she eventually recovered, but it was like, "gosh child!" Callum woke at the end of the festivities, when another toddler when into full on meltdown and the mom walked him into the room Callum was sleeping in. But, then Callum got to play with some playdough before we hit the road.

Then we went home and ate lunch and relaxed for a bit before round two. We met my brother and dad at church for an early Saturday service. Then we headed over to Ian's parents house for another egg hunt and dinner.

It really was nice getting everything in on Saturday because Sunday became a nice family day. My dad, brother and I went to breakfast. Then we hung out for a bit before my dad had to head back to LA. We did yard work, while the kids played in the yard...and attempted to swim before they realized we weren't lying when we said it would be freezing. Followed up by dinner and me going grocery shopping at a literally empty grocery store...that was super nice! Then bedtime and back to the grind.

It was a good weekend. No, a great weekend.

Easter Weekend

^^ That moment when you both see the egg and go for it at the same time

We started the weekend off by me riding the kids to my friend's mom's house in the bucket bike for an easter egg hunt. I was told we looked like an easter parade pulling up in that. Haha! But, I have to admit, my calves were burning a bit riding all three kids in that. I've really only ever done two at a time. My friend's mom throws some amazing parties, and this one did not disappoint. Callum's favorite part was filling his easter basket with rocks in the backyard and poking the bunny with his finger. Connor and Isla had a grand ole time running around with their friends. And the four of us overstayed our welcome by about an hour after the party ended...when the lack of a diaper (who brings diapers with them when they have babies?! oops!) sent us riding for home. 

But it worked out because when we got home, Callum went down for a couple hour long nap and it gave me the perfect opportunity to let Connor and Isla dye some eggs. Now they really enjoyed the egg dying part, but I really think their favorite part was after that was over when I let them mix all the colors together...and make a huge mess. They claimed they were doing a science experiment. They were playing so well together that I let the mess slide. I can pretty much let anything slide when they are actually getting along and not fighting!

Sunday morning we went to church together, then Ian took the kids while I worked in the nursery for the second service. After I was done we headed out to Ian's parents for lunch. My parents and brother came as well. It was pouring down rain, but that didn't stop the kids from running around in the rain collecting their eggs. After the kids were nice and hyper, we packed them up and headed back home for a quiet evening to ourselves.

It was a good and full weekend. Full of friends, family and love.

Easter Recap

I thought about sharing a bunch of photos from easter, but then realized this one sums things up rather nicely. It was a day of family, fun, food and a spunky child.

It was a beautiful day that we got to enjoy mostly outside. We got to spend time with both sets of grandparents. The kids got to do an easter egg hunt. And they even got to sneak in some play time with their cousin, who they hadn't seen since christmas. And, best of all, Ian and I got to sneak in a date…we didn't even take Callum! It was the cherry on top of a really good day.

Happy Easter

Hoppy Easter…get it? Like easter bunnies hopping. Yeah, for some reason I thought it was super funny. That's what you get from a sleep deprived mom that stays up way too late into the night sometimes.  In all seriousness though, easter is like the most important of holidays to me because it symbolizes eternity to me and my sins being washed away. I am oh so thankful for Jesus coming to earth to die on the cross for all of us. It's pretty amazing.

My grandma made Connor this outfit when he was a baby. Given that it was freezing at easter in Scotland, Connor only sported it for a picture. So, I decided to dig it out for Callum to wear for a picture and for easter. While taking pictures, Connor asked why Callum was wearing a girl outfit. I still think he looks cute though.

Happy easter to you! I am hoping mine is filled with lots of family time, relaxing, egg hunts, smiling kids and worshiping my savior. I hope you have a great one as well.

Easter

With the family all dressed up for easter, I couldn't help but drag us all out for a family photo. And I couldn't believe my luck that all of us were actually looking at the camera. That rarely happens with someone standing behind the camera trying to yell for my kids to look, so the fact that it happened with a camera on the tripod is nothing short of a miracle.

I decided to make the kids a matching hair bow and bow tie. My crafting skills are laughable, but they actually held up for the day. Connor did NOT want to wear his bow tie because it was "too polka dotty" but a little old fashioned bribery won him over...though he did continuously ask me to take it off.

We had a great, albeit busy, easter. It started off with my dad and I going to the sunrise service at church. I had never been before and wanted to go. It was a great service, but an interesting mix of people dressed in suits and people who looked like they just rolled out of bed. I was sporting the just rolled out of bed look, complete with coffee cup in hand.

We went back to church as a family later. Then we headed over to Ian's aunt and uncle's house for lunch. After that, we went to my parent's house for dinner. The kids ingested more candy in one day than anyone should in a month, but I guess that is how it goes. Now I just need to find a really good hiding spot for the rest of the candy! Thankfully the long day beat out the sugar high the kids were on and they went to bed easily and were asleep before bedtime.

Connor's School Easter Party

Connor had his easter party at school on Wednesday. The kids were told to bring an easter basket and I have to admit, I felt a bit like a mom failure when I saw the other kids easter baskets. Most seemed very fancy and some were even fancy-schmancy ones with the kids name embroidered on them. In all honestly, I realize Connor doesn't care (and I kind of think fancy baskets are a waste of money that play on parents emotions, wanting to get the best for their children), but still. 

Connor got to find nine easter eggs during the egg hunt. He has told me that numerous times, "The teacher said I could get nine eggs. I got nine eggs." And, as soon as Isla laid her eyes on those nine eggs, she wanted them...bad. You can only imagine my shock when Connor agreed to give her one. And when she wanted another one, he once again agreed. WHO'S CHILD IS THIS?! My son, sharing with my daughter?!? Say what?! But seriously, I was blown away, in a good way, that he so willingly shared with her. I'm pretty sure, if candy were on the line, she wouldn't have shared with him.

Connor also got to decorate a cupcake with "colored frosting and other stuff" then eat it and it was "really good". He came home with a couple easter themed crafts as well. But, the highlight of the day was definitely the egg hunt. It sounds like the egg hunt is definitely going to be a win for him on Sunday!

And to prove that I have such a grown up little boy on my hands, he has spring break next week! I thought spring break was for big kids...when did I get a big kid?!
