Little Moments Not To Be Forgotten

It's been a while since I've done one of these posts, and I'm sad because they are actually among my favorite. Capturing the everyday of our lives and my kids childhoods is what I really enjoy doing. Because, so often, it's the little things we remember and the little things that truly make us smile.

Little Moments Not To Be Forgotten

two brothers in a space pod
tummy time
morning shenanigans
late night lego play
three Grimbleby's in a bed
Darth Vader vs. candle girl (?!)
two kids in a tub
dad cuddles

There is something about a baby in the house that naturally slows the pace of life down. It really does allow you to focus on the little things…of course, maybe that's because taking care of a baby leaves little time for big things! Either way, I really do enjoy the slower pace, especially in the evenings. Of course, sometimes I could do without all the fussiness in the evenings. Which, what is it with babies and crying in the evenings?! I digress.

There is a lot of love between the brothers in this house and I totally love it. Like it melts my mama heart over and over every single day. Connor is all about Callum and it really is cute.

Yes, it's February and we still have Christmas lights up. BUT, they are only still up in the kids rooms. All the rest of the decorations are put away. Well, that's kind of a lie. We still have the Christmas lights up in our bushes outside. We put away the extension cords to plug them in weeks ago, but they are still in the bushes. Remember my first thought? Not much free time around these parts.

In the most genius mom hack ever, I realized if I turned Callum's bath sideways at the end of our tub, it sits perfectly. Now I can easily give two kids a bath at once. And the other kid gets the privilege of bathing with Callum without actually bathing with Callum (i.e. all the fun parts and none of the not so fun parts like hardly any water in the tub or constantly being told by mom to be careful and not to splash Callum).

He Smiled

He smiled. I caught it on camera. This is the stuff dreams are made of. Well, the dreams of mothers of small children at least. Last week I managed to get a picture of Callum smiling, but he looked drunk. Then a couple days ago, I captured an open mouth smile where you could really only tell he was smiling because of his eyes. But this time I got it…even if Ian says it looks more like a smirk, I am calling it a win and saying its a smile.

This whole having a baby around and focusing on the little things thing is pretty dang amazing.

Unsubscribe

I've been on a kick lately to unsubscribe from all the junk emails I get. And I really didn't realize how much I get until I started unsubscribing from it. Many people I know have an email account set up just for junk mail, but I do not. And I am that person that signs up for emails because it got me a discount at one point or entered me in a giveaway or something and I never go back and unsubscribe. And it has gotten out of control. The frustrating part is it isn't always easy to unsubscribe from emails. Some put their unsubscribe links at the top, most at the bottom. Some unsubscribe you as soon as you hit the link, but others make you take a survey and some even make you reenter your email address to get off their annoying list. Sure, none of it is hard exactly, but it takes time and when you are trying to get your name off as many lists as I am, it becomes annoying. But the other day that all changed.

I don't know how it took me so long to see this, but in gmail there is an unsubscribe button on most of the junk mail emails…right there on the top left, next to the email address of the sender. And once you click it, gmail does the rest for you. Some of the companies unsubscribe you immediately and you know because a window pops up in your browser letting you know that. Others take a couple days and you get an email when you have been removed from the list. But I love just having to click ONE BUTTON and not having to do any leg work. Seriously life changing for a girl like me.

It's the Little Things

It's the little things in life that are great…

...like sitting under the table at dinner and feeding a bird your rice. Who am I kidding, I was just as entertained by it as the kids were!

…like having an uninterrupted conversation with your husband…those uninterrupted moments are hard to come by with a 5 & 3 year old in the house!

…like having your mom play legos with you. If I am sitting on the floor playing legos with Connor, he will play for hours and hours. Of course, he always decides to redo what I build…I just don't build things up to his standards!

…like being able to catch up on life with a friend.

…like holding Isla, having her lay her head on my shoulder and rub my back.

…like seeing the flashes of lightning and hearing the thunder while snuggled up in your bed.

…like waking up to two children still asleep. Enjoying the quietness of the morning. And enjoying the moment each sleepy-eyed child wakes up and wants to cuddle with mom.

I really do enjoy the little things in life as much as I enjoy the big ones. Heck, I probably enjoy them more because they are way less stressful!
