Basically we hit the ground running in June. It started with Isla's ballet recital weekend, which was the same weekend as my four friends market. Then we left pretty much straight away for Arizona, hitting up Ian's brother's graduation on the way back. Then there was vbs, blueberry picking, camping on the coast, play dates, our anniversary and more. Oh, and our entire backyard was ripped out too. Like I said, we hit the ground running in June and still haven't stopped!
Oh May, you've been all over the place! We've had hot days, we've had cold days. We've had sick days and healthy days. School ended. Baseball ended. Callum started walking exclusively. Connor lost a tooth. Pool season began. And, the best part? I no longer have to set an alarm in the morning!
April was a big month for us. Ian's busy season finally ended. Callum started walking. Isla lost her first tooth. Connor got the game ball at one of his baseball games. Then there was easter and my birthday. Ian and I spend a weekend away in San Francisco. I took the kids to a magical book reading in my friend's front yard with author Ben Hatke. Not to forget all the normal dat to day life that happened too...because, really those are what make up the majority of this beautiful life.
I really do enjoy doing these little videos. Little snippets of life always fascinate me and make me smile. Not to mention, they serve as such a great reminder of all we did in that month. I mean, we welcomed spring in March! And actually got some really good weather. Not to mention, disneyland, Connor starting baseball, Connor getting hot lunch at school for the first time. And dandelions, all the dandelions. Callum learned how to climb up play structures at the park (yay for no longer being able to sit at the park, but now having to guard every opening to make sure Callum doesn't plummet to his death), Isla had a field trip to a fire station and I got a new gnome.
^^ This may be my favorite picture ever! He isn't angry here, but actually holding up his bowl, screaming in pure joy.
The other day, I put Callum in his high chair to feed him and he literally went crazy. He was screaming and kicking and throwing himself around. Yeah, that toddler will has come roaring to the surface of my adorable babe. I had a feeling the real problem was that he wanted to feed himself. I tried handing him the spoon with some oatmeal on it, but he wanted the bowl too. So, I pulled him out, stripped him down, then put him back in his chair again and let him go to town.
Though he attempted to use his spoon a few times, he mostly just used his hand to scoop up the oatmeal and put it in his mouth. Then he would lick his fingers and start all over again. It was actually quite comical to watch. Aww, the messy stage of learning to feed yourself. It's fun when you have time to clean, but doing a deep cleaning of the house and a babe after every meal can get a little tiring. It comes with the territory though.
And if you want to see Callum in action, here is a short video clip of him eating his oatmeal.
You may have been wet, February, but you were good to us. We had a snow day. We got fresh made bread every week that not only tastes amazing, but is made by the sweetest person. There was wildflower picking, play dates with friends, unexpected date nights, Gilly the tadpole, baseball season starting and more. Connor and I finished the first Harry Potter book and started the second. Isla's ballet class started learning their recital dance. Callum has mastered cruising around and goes up the stairs with gusto. Ian is head deep in busy season. And me? I'm drinking coffee every day, mothering these babies the best I can and trying to cook delicious soups as often as I can before the weather turns warm.
On another subject, if anyone has any advice about sharing videos, I'm all ears. I can't figure out why the quality isn't there when I post it to my blog, vs how it is on my computer. I figured out how to fix it not showing up on phones, but the quality isn't there. #nontechsavvythirthysomethingyearold
Sometimes it feels like the days and months tick by and not much happens. When I take the time to look back, I am always blown away by how much, both big and small, has actually happened. January was a good start to the year for us. It started with a trip to LA, seeing old friends and going on a fun family adventure. The kids got a new cousin. Callum started cruising around holding on to things, and learned how to crawl up the stairs. Connor celebrated 100 days of school. Ian and I snuck out on a couple date nights. Life really is all those little moments that you forget about, but when you look back on them, they are so beautiful and precious. Enjoy this little recap video from our January.
