Fall Style

Fall is an interesting season in California, or at least where I live in California. The temperature changes by about 40 or so degrees during the day. This makes it hard to know what to wear. It also makes cardigans my bff (best fall friend).

Even though I didn't manage to participate in Fall Fashion Week this year, I did take pictures and thought I would post all my fall fashion in one go...I say all my fall fashion because right here is just about all of it!

 Shirt: Old Navy
Jeans: Madewell
Shoes: Toms
Necklace: Street vendor in San Francisco

Have you ever had your husband take pictures of you and you pose in the dorkiest way ever and he happens to not tell you? Well, that happened to me. I have no clue what possessed me to hang on the fence and why I thought it would be cute.

  Shirt: Old Navy - thrifted
Jeans: Madewell
Shoes: Converse

  Shirt: Anthropologie
Cardigan: Madewell
Jeans: Madewell
Shoes: Toms

  Tank: Old Navy
Cardigan: from Scotland
Necklace: Forever 21
Jeans: Madewell
Shoes: Toms

Dress: Forever 21
Leggings: from Scotland
Shoes: Old Navy

And just to get it out in the open, your mind is not playing tricks on you. I do in fact wear my Toms almost daily and I do pretty much only wear two pairs of jeans and they are both from Madewell. They fit me so well and I feel so good in them. Oh, and the Forever 21 dress, I am pretty sure it was the first piece of clothing I bought at F21 many, many moons ago.

Fall Fashion Week - Day 7

Once again, fashion week comes to a close. tear. Thanks to all the lovely ladies that left such wonderful and uplifting comments to me. It really lifted me up and made me smile.

Today I am trying something I don't normally wear. I am wearing leggings with a shirt, rather than a dress. Sure, it is a long shirt, but still it barely covers my butt, so I feel a little exposed. Even with the exposure, I am thinking I kind of like it.

Shirt: Topshop
Leggings: Hollister
Shoes: Reef

And so many of you ladies inspired me this week. Especially with the fabulously large and colorful earrings so many of you sported. I wanted to throw some on with this outfit, alas I didn't have any. Mental note to self, buy some fabulously large and colorful earrings. They are fun and look cool. Thanks again for all the inspiration throughout the week and a huge thanks to Deanna at Delirious Rhapsody for hosting us.

Fall Fashion Week - Day 5

I got dressed this morning, looked in the mirror and laughed. This outfit is identical in color and pattern to the first fall outfit I wore this week. You can't tell what I like!

Shirt: Made Well
Shorts: CAbi
Shoes: Reef

The shirt has a pocket. I thought you would like to know. I am not sure why I like t-shirts with pockets so much, but I do. They break up the monotony somehow.

I actually got this shirt to match my colored jeans. And I loved the color of my jeans so much, I picked up some shorts in the same color. Hey, if you find something that works, stick with it! Plus, I already knew what shirts I own go well with the color, so it was an easy transition. And maybe I should also add, I like the fit of the shirt so much, I went back and bought two more in different colors. Like I said, stick with what works! Hmm...let me just make that my fashion message of the day.

If you find something that works, stick with it!

There you have it. All my fashionable wisdom for you...or perhaps me just showing you how fashionably stunted I am. I buy the same things over and over and over again.

Fall Fashion Week - Day 4

This dress was actually a dress that I decided to cut the top off of and turn into a skirt. However, I don't like how it looks as a skirt, so I wear it as a dress. Follow me? It's a dress I turned into a dress!

Dress: Urban Outfitter
Necklace: PacSun
Shoes: H&M

This dress has its pros and cons. It is super easy to feed Isla in. But, its also super easy for my kids to yank on and expose me in public. Gotta be careful with that one!

Also, I am getting better at the whole posing thing. For instance, today I learned not to hold one of my arms behind my back because rather than looking cool or artistic, it makes me look like I am missing an arm! And, well, I generally pose with my legs crossed because I don't like them and I feel like it helps them out a little bit. So there you have it, my posing wisdom for the day!

And in case you care about what else is going on in my life, be sure to check out my post about Connor potty training

P.S. I can't figure out for the life of me why the font size and spacing will change in my posts randomly! Notice how the stuff before my picture is different than the stuff after. Anyone have any wisdom to share on how to fix this?

Fall Fashion Week - Day 3

Ok, I have officially given up on fall. It's supposed to be in the mid 90's this week, definitely not feeling fallish and I am no longer going to sweat it out in fallish outfits trying to bring it on. But I am sporting brown and that is a fall color.

One of the things I have been working on when buying clothes is buying pieces that I can throw on and look put together. Yes, a t-shirt and jeans is my signature look, but sometimes I want to look a little more put together, but still with minimal effort. Enter nicer t-shirts...hahaha! I KNOW how to class it up!

Anyway, what I love about this shirt (besides the fact that I got a stain on it while drinking my morning coffee) is the fact that I can wear it with a chunky belt or by itself. The belt makes me feel a little bit more put together. And without a belt, I am ready for a day of getting stuff done around the house.

Shirt: Old Navy
Belt: From a store in Scotland
Necklace: Sorry, can't remember
Shorts: Juicy Couture
Shoes: Rainbow

My goal for next summer is to buy a couple pairs of cute sandals that aren't flip-flops. You know, class it up a bit more!

And on a completely unrelated note to fashion, say a prayer that Canon fixes my camera fast. As of today, I am currently using like one of the original Canon dslr's. Its like pulling teeth. Seriously. It's painful. I just hope I don't miss out documenting too many moments of my children's lives while the camera is gone...did you read that Ian? Total guilt trip!

Fall Fashion Week - Day 2

In an attempt to keep with "fall fashion", I decided to wear a light jacket with the sleeves rolled up. I only made it half way through the day before I pulled it off. It's in the mid 90's here today people!

I must say though, I had fun getting dressed this morning. I tried on a couple shirts before deciding on one. It's fun to actually look through my closet in the morning and put thought into my outfit rather than just mindlessly throw something on.

Anyway, here is me today...

Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Jacket: Roxy
Shorts: Juicy Couture
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

I wasn't going to show this picture because I feel like I look pregnant the way my shirt is gathered on the sides. Talk about hyper critical of myself, right?! But Connor just ran into the photo, stood next to me and said "cheese" and he looks so stinking adorable, so I had to share it.

After this picture was taken, Connor actually tried putting on both hats he was holding at the same time. It was cute. And don't mind his mismatched outfit. Given that he is still learning battling me on peeing in the toilet, he is going through a couple pairs of shorts during the day and doesn't always match.

Fall Fashion Week - Day 1

It's here, it's here, fall fashion week is here!!!

delirious rhapsody

It feels like it has been forever in a day since I have participated in a fashion week and I always enjoy being a part of them because, well, they are fun, I meet new bloggers and get inspiration from other's style.

The past few days I have been wishing fall upon us here in California by dressing more fallish (i.e. jeans and leggings). Unfortunately the weather hasn't gotten the clue and we are still having highs around 90. Oh well. I am not ready to give up. Here is what I wore today (and sweated in a bit).

Shirt: Banana Republic
Pants: Made Well
Shoes: Reef
Bracelet: So old, I have no clue

Be sure to head over to Delirious Rhapsody and check out all the other lovely ladies participating. And for those of you not participating, just bow to my peer pressure and do it. You will have so much fun!

Fall Fashion Week {Day 7}

Better late than never, right?

Today both Connor and I got our hair cut. And, you are lucky enough to get before & after shots. Well, not a good before shot for me. I didn't even bother doing my hair this morning since my first errand was our hair appointment. And, since the high was in the mid 80's today, I decided to splurge and wear jeans. At one point, I regretted my decision. But for most of the day, jeans worked out great. And it made me feel more like it was actually fall!

Shirt: Old Navy Maternity
Jeans: Old Navy Maternity
Necklace: PacSun
Shoes: H&M

I threw in that side shot not to show you how short my maternity shirts are looking on me, but to show you how small my butt is looking. I love it. I always feel like I have such a large one and think it looks cute looking all small compared to such a large belly.

And now my new hair. Its hard to tell, but I did get a good amount cut off. It is long enough in the front to tuck behind my ears, but short and layered in the back...maybe 2 or so inches long.

And now for Connor...

Shirt: GAP
Shorts: Old Navy
Shoes: Target

Connor was such a man getting his hair cut today. I was so proud of him. And he now has a proper hair cut again, and not just one his mom gave him! Its cute. A proper little boy hair cut.

Once again, it has been another fun fashion week. Thanks to Emery over at Moms are for Everyone for always hosting these great events. Its always fun reconnecting with some great bloggers out there and seeing what some of my blogger friends wear.

Fall Fashion Week {Day 6}

The past day and a half have been crazy.

It started off yesterday morning with my doctor's appointment. I almost asked them to NOT check me for progress because I didn't want to be discouraged. Well, I let them check. And sure enough, nothing is going on. NOTHING. Nada. No dilation. No effacement. No nothing. AND to make matters a little worse, they even made me a 41 week appointment. Sniff. I am a big girl. I can handle it. I really have expected to go over with this baby. After all, Connor was 10 days late. And I am not at all for induction and really just want this baby to come on its own when it is ready. I was just kind of hoping that would be sooner rather than later. But then again, I wasn't dilated at all with Connor and my water broke a measly 18 hours later, at home, on its own. So there is hope.

The thing is though, I actually put effort into my outfit yesterday. I even wore jewelry. And there is no photographic evidence of this outfit. It is as if it didn't even exist. Oh well.

Then this morning the newspaper induced hysteria in me about the listeria outbreak from cantaloupe. And of course I recently consumed a whole cantaloupe. So, I called the advice nurse. Was on hold for 30 minutes, when I was told the wait time was 1 minute. And when I finally got to talk to a nurse, she was rude and brushed me off because I wasn't yet sick. Uh, thanks for all the great advice!

Oh, and all this hysteria was going down while I was trying to rush out of the house this morning for a meeting.

Now its 2pm and I find myself totally and utterly exhausted. So, I am going to take a nap. But not before I share an outfit with you. Sure, it wasn't from this week, but from a couple weeks ago when Ian and I went to San Francisco for his birthday. But on a positive note, it is the most fall-like outfit I have been able to wear in months. After all, we are still dealing with temps in the 90's...stupid forecasters lied when they said it was supposed to be in the 80's this week! Where was I? Oh yeah, my outfit...

Shirt: Forever 21 Maternity
Jeans: Old Navy Maternity
Shoes: Rainbows

Sorry for the rant. I guess its those pregnancy hormones bubbling to the surface. But if someone actually said that to me, I might just slap them! See, more hormones.

Fall Fashion Week {Day 5}

The next few days are going to get kind of bring around here in my "fashion" world...as if it is ever super exciting. The days are busy and full of tasks, so practical clothing is a must. After all, when headed to the park with a 21 month old, I ALWAYS have to be prepared to climb to the top of the jungle gym before he jumps! And try doing that while 9 months pregnant...not the prettiest of pictures.

Tank: Michael Stars Maternity
Gauchos: Old Navy Maternity
Shoes: Reef

The husband was nice enough to get this tank for me at the beginning of my pregnancy. He picked it out all by himself. I am glad I have it. It is comfortable and cute. And tank tops have become my best friend in this NOT-fallish-at-all weather.

Fall Fashion Week {Day 4}

Dresses really are a pregnant gal's best friend. The are cool, comfortable and there never seems to be a problem with them fitting! This dress I almost passed up on the rack. It was on clearance for $6, but didn't look like something I would wear at all. In fact, I think it looks like something one would wear to work. Anyway, with a $6 price tag, I couldn't pass it up. I cut the stupid bow off the belly (I am SO NOT a fan of "belly bows" on maternity clothes). And this dress has become a staple this pregnancy. I wear it every single stinking week. It is so freaking comfortable that I don't really care that it isn't my style. And now, without further ado, my $6 dress:

Necklace: Made by me - circa 2002
Tank: Michael Stars
Dress: Liz Lange for Target Maternity
Shoes: H&M

Fall Fashion Week {Day 3}

I am thinking fashion week is a MUST for all pregnant gals. All the complements go straight to my head and totally help out. I look in the mirror at times and feel like a cow. Especially with all the stares in public and the ridiculous "You look like you are going to pop" comments. So thanks ladies for helping this pregnant gal out and sending complements my way. I FREAKING LOVE THEM!

As promised, here is a more put together look:

And a closeup of the necklace:

Necklace: From the hubby*
Tank: Forever 21 Maternity
Dress: Topshop Maternity
Leggings: Hollister
Shoes: Toms

I have to say, I don't get why so many maternity tops are so low cut. We already have it going on up upstairs and could be sporting cleavage in a turtleneck, so low cut shirts are not needed! Oh well. Thank God (or Forever 21) for layering tank tops.

*When looking for a necklace to wear this morning, I came across this one. My husband gave it to me the first Christmas we were dating...12 years ago! I used to never take it off. I wore it every single day. It has lots of sentimental value and good memories. It made me smile when I put it on this morning.

Fall Fashion Week {Day 2}

Unfortunately it was so hot I couldn't bare but to wear something practical. These maternity gauchos have ended up being my best friend this pregnancy. They are seriously so comfortable and not at all hot. A win-win situation when pregnant in hot weather.

Tank x2: Topshop Maternity
Gauchos: Old Navy Maternity
Shoes: Reefs

I PROMISE tomorrow I will wear something a bit more inspiring fashionable thought out. Heck, it is supposed to be in the 80's. I will have no excuse but to bust out something adorable!

Fall Fashion Week {Day 1}

So excited for fall fashion week! Once again, the über adorable Emery Jo over at Moms are for Everyone is hosting a fashion week. These fashion weeks have lead me to some great bloggers. Because of this, I am excited to see what this one has in store for me and who I will meet (or reconnect with) this time. Feel free to join in the fun...come on, you know you want to!

This time last year, I probably wrote some sob story about how it is cold year round in Scotland, so I don't have much fashion (you can read those words here or here). You know, because I had to bundle up. Fast forward a year and I now live in California's Central Valley. And apparently the Central Valley wasn't given the memo that fall is starting. Our temperatures have been hovering in the high 90's. Rumor has it that it is supposed to be in the 80's this coming week, but I will believe that welcome relief when I feel it.

And in case this is the first time you are viewing my world blog, I am 2 weeks away from my due date. Totally ready to pop! So enjoy the maternity fashion fun!

Shirt: Forever 21 Maternity
Shorts: Hand-me-downs
Shoes: Rainbows

And Connor is joining in on the fun...

Shirt: GAP Kids
Shorts: GAP Kids
Shoes: Target*

*And that's the last time I will ever buy this kid cheap sandals again. They make his feet smell so freaking bad!

Happy Halloween

So I took a couple "action" shots for you today. I thought it would be a special way to end fashion week. Sure, they may be blurry, but you know you love them!

Sweater: Banana Republic
Shirt: Junk Food
Jeans: Topshop
Belt: Oldie but a goodie
Boots: Uggs

So I realize that I wear practically the same things over and over throughout the week. Fashion week has made that glaringly obvious to me. The thing is, I know you do it too! Come on, just admit it.

And I thought you would like to see an adorable picture of our little family.

And a picture of Connor and his friend Luca dressed up like pumpkins.

Thanks to all of you who commented and made fall fashion week so much fun. I now have some new blog friends to stalk read up on.

Fall Fashion Week - Day 6

Wow, it is so much a harder to post a blog on Saturday! It's almost 9pm and I am just getting around to posting this bad boy (and to eating dinner...oops!). So, here is my cute outfit that I was supposed to wear yesterday but sported today instead...

Sweater: Primark
Tank: North Face
Skirt (with pockets=score!): Target
Tights: H&M
Boots: My newly beloved...Camper

And in lieu of nature fashion, I can't help but force you let you see the adorableness that is my son...dressed up as a sock monkey non-the-less!

Fall Fashion Week - Day 5

I actually had an outfit all picked out for today. I had plans. Plans that involved leaving the house. So I thought I would look cute. Alas, the morning didn't go as planned, so I opted for jeans...again. Don't worry though. I will wear my cute outfit tomorrow.

Beanie: Billabong
Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Belt: Don't know...had it for 10+ years and there isn't a label on it
Jeans: Topshop
Shoes: Converse high tops...another staple in my wardrobe
Jacket: Abercrombie from 100 years ago (when it was still "cool" in my eyes)

Connor trying to get in on the picture action...or more being angry that I wasn't holding him!

When I got to my friend's house, her husband told me I could take my hat off. I kindly explained to him that I in fact could not, as I han't done my hair. I guess my cover was blown.

And for fall nature fashion Friday, some pretty leaves. I think if every day were like last weekend, I would like the fall. But most days I have to endure rain and wind and that makes fall not a fun season for me. And wet leaves matted everywhere are kind of gross.

Fall Fashion Week - Day 4

A few years ago, I loved it when it would get cold. I loved pulling out my scarves, boots and sweaters that got used all too little. For the past 3+ years, I spend 3/4 of the year in scarves, boots and sweaters. The bundled up look has gotten a little old. I never even knew summer jackets existed before I moved to Scotland! Reading one of your blogs yesterday, I saw that someone was all bundled up because it was in the 60's...and I was thinking, if it was in the 60's, I would have pulled out my summer clothes! Oh well.

If weather were no option, I would spend every day of my life in a tank top, jeans and flip flops...with the occasional sun dress thrown in. That's the truth.

I wish I could dress to impress all the time. It just isn't me.

Now, without further ado, my outfit for the day...

Scarf: my Mom brought it back for me from Cambodia
Shirt: J Crew
Jeans: True Religion...also worn on Monday
Boots: Uggs...also worn on Tuesday

Connor wanted to get in on the action.

Onesie: Carters
Adorableness: his mom and dad

And a little something special for fall nature fashion Thursday. Me torturing chasing some geese. Get over my cruelty and look at the beautiful orange tree in the background!
